PNGInfo is a data management tool to monitor the PNG Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), development strategies and other socio-economic indicators. On 9 July 2009, the Department of National Planning and Monitoring and the National Statistics Office, in collaboration with the United Nations, officially launched the PNGInfo System at the Holiday Inn, Port Moresby.

PNG Info assists in organizing and presenting data from global to unlimited sub‐national levels and is available with both on‐line and stand‐alone systems. It has simple and user‐friendly features that can be used to produce tables, graphs and maps for inclusion in MDG reports, presentations and advocacy material for better policy analysis and planning.

PNGInfo was endorsed by the government of Papua New Guinea in March 2007 and is a customized version of DevInfo but tailored to the PNG Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) based on 15 National Targets and 67 localised MDG indicators (pg 65, MTDS 2005-2010), as well as other relevant indicators to monitor government policies and development priorities (e.g. Medium0tem Development Strategies (MTDS) Performance Management Framework, PNG Censuses or Demographic and Health Surveys etc).

UN Resident Coordinator Dr Jacqueline Badcock congratulated the government for its commitment to strengthening the statistical capacity in Papua New Guinea through the development of this new system. “On our part, I would like to emphasize that the UN is committed to assisting the Government of Papua New Guinea in monitoring the country’s achievements towards the Millennium Development Goals. And PNGInfo will contribute greatly and positively in this area,” said Dr Badcock.
