195 million    The number of children in the developing world who are stunted is 195 million.

A World Fit For Children Goal : Reduction of child malnutrition among children under five years of age by at least one third, with special attention to children under two years of age

In the developing world, approximately 195 million children under 5 years old are stunted. Nearly half of these children (85 million) live in South Asia.

Stunting is a widespread problem affecting approximately one third of children in the developing world.

This indicates an urgent need to accelerate integrated programmes addressing nutrition during the mother’s pregnancy and before the child reaches 2 years of age, the period of children’s most rapid physical and mental growth and development.
