Place of residence (i.e. urban or rural location) also influences the likelihood that a child will be out of school.
The proportion of children out of school is greater in rural areas; in fact, almost double that observed in urban areas, 30% compared to 18%. Since most children of primary school age in developing countries live in rural areas, it is not surprising that 82% of out-of-school children live in rural areas.
