The National Council for Childhood and Adolescence (CONANI) in the Dominican Republic has recently launched a new database – CONANIInfo - that provides the necessary statistical information in order to track country progress towards fulfilling the rights of children and adolescents.  The database has been adapted from the DevInfo database system endorsed by the United Nations to monitor progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and other national priorities.

CONANIInfo was developed as a solution to store and process information from the National System for the Protection of the Fundamental Rights of

Children and Adolescents as well as from organizations comprising the National Directory. The National Directory consists of the various institutions, agencies, and organizations - both governmental and non-governmental - that formulate, coordinate, supervise, and execute public policy and programs for the protection of children’s rights. These include the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor, municipal governments, the Catholic Church, and evangelical churches in the country.

Data in the CONANIInfo database is sourced from the national population and housing census, Demographic and Health Surveys, and other national surveys. The database gives users access to qualitative and quantitative disaggregated data, serving as a one-stop central information hub for all information related to children’s rights in the Dominican Republic.

Using CONANIInfo, stakeholders can search for relevant data and present it through tables, graphs and maps. CONANI officials hope that the database will strengthen inter-agency cooperation and facilitate tracking of country efforts in improving the fulfillment of child rights through the implementation of evidence-based policies.
