The DevInfo initiative recently had the opportunity to participate in two key human development meetings in the United States.
The 2010 Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) was held from 14-17 April 2010 in Dallas, Texas. The PAA is a nonprofit, scientific, professional organization established to promote the improvement, advancement and progress of the human race through research of problems related to human population. The meeting addressed numerous issues and challenges related to population and development across the globe. Demographers, sociologists, and economists representing various nations were in attendance.

As part of the conference activities, the DevInfo initiative was invited to exhibit the latest DevInfo database technology. Visitors to the DevInfo exhibit had the opportunity to learn about DevInfo adaptations currently in use in different countries around the world (see http://www.devinfo.org/di_adaptations.html). Participants were also able to view live demonstrations on the power of web-based DevInfo database technology to provide access to human development information and generate powerful presentation objects in just a few clicks, such as country data profiles (see http://www.devinfo.org/di_profile.html).

In addition, the DevInfo initiative was invited to take part in the Annual Conference of the Association of American Geographers (AAG), held in Washington, D.C. from 14-18 April 2010. The Annual Conference features presentations from leading scholars and experts on the latest research, policy, and applications related to geography and GIS technology.

Specifically, the DevInfo initiative presented a paper in a session titled “Geographic Contexts of Global Public Health: Challenges and Practical Solutions in Research and Programming.” This interactive short paper session brought together researchers and practitioners of global health to share challenges and practical solutions encountered when working with geospatial tools and data in low-income country contexts.
Mr. Douglas Hsu of the DevInfo Support Group presented concrete examples of how DevInfo is being used to support health program decision making across the developing world.
