On 29 June 2010 UNICEF Mexico and its Advisory Board unveiled infoniñez.mx, an online tool that contains information on the state of Mexico’s children and adolescents, and the progress and challenges in terms of fulfillment of their rights.
It is hoped that this virtual instrument will become a reference point on child-related issues among different sectors of society interested in child and
adolescent rights in Mexico: decision makers, the media, academics, civil society organizations and |

the general public. The website’s address is: www.infoninez.mx and access is free.
One of the key strategies of the cooperation programme of UNICEF Mexico is the generation and dissemination of quality information and analyses on the level of child rights fulfillment in the country. In this framework, UNICEF Mexico and its Advisory Board mapped the official information currently available on different indicators related to the state of children in the country, which served as a basis for the design of infoniñez.mx.

“Infoniñez.mx seeks to put statistical information and crucial data within reach of the general public and in so doing, help foster commitment among all sectors of society in terms of child and adolescent rights fulfillment in the country”, affirmed César Ortega de la Roquette, President of UNICEF Mexico’s Advisory Board.
“The aim of this tool is to gather relevant information on the same website that can be used by all actors and institutions involved in designing and implementing public policies for children and adolescents in the country”,
indicated Susana Sottoli, UNICEF Mexico Representative.

At the heart of the website is the Data and indicators module, which links directly to the infoninez.mx database built using DevInfo, the database system endorsed by the United Nations to monitor progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and other national priorities. The database compiles and disseminates information sourced from surveys, census data and civil society organizations on indicators related to the situation of children and adolescents in Mexico at the national, state and in some cases municipal level. The indicators are classified in four groups of child rights: survival, development, protection and participation, and are disaggregated by age, sex, and geographic area. The database system also provides users with the opportunity to undertake their own information cross-sections and generate maps, graphs and tables.
