| DevInfo Showcased as MDG Monitoring Tool at Second Africa Statistical

The DevInfo initiative recently had the opportunity to participate in the Second Meeting of the Statistical Commission for Africa (StatCom - Africa II) organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa. The theme of the conference, which was held from 17-22 January 2010 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was “Harnessing Financial and Technical Resources in Support of the Monitoring of Millennium Development Goals.”
Building on the success of StatCom- Africa I held in January 2008, StatCom-Africa II focused on the progress made in statistical development across the continent. The meeting also addressed challenges faced by stakeholders in supporting African countries in the production and use of quality statistical data to support development efforts. Many African representatives, including ministers from various national bureaus of statistics, were in attendance.
As part of the conference activities, the DevInfo initiative was invited to exhibit the latest DevInfo

database technology. Visitors to the DevInfo exhibit had the opportunity to learn about DevInfo adaptations currently in use in different countries, both in Africa and worldwide (see http://www.devinfo.org/di_adaptation_africa.html). Participants were also able to view live demonstrations on the power of web-based DevInfo database technology to provide access to human development information and generate powerful presentation objects in just a few clicks.
