Yemen Forging Ahead with Using DevInfo to Monitor Human Development
Download PDF Print News

The Republic of Yemen’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, has recently launched DevInfo Yemen 2.0 to help monitor and track the nation’s human development progress. The software is a country adaptation of the DevInfo database system endorsed by the United Nations for monitoring progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and other national priorities.

Built on DevInfo 6.0 database technology, DevInfo Yemen 2.0 contains three databases containing
data from the 2006-2010 National Plan (Third Socio-Economic Development Plan for Poverty Reduction (DPPR)), the MDGs and the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS). The objectives of DevInfo Yemen 2.0 are to disseminate the country’s human development data and to raise awareness among concerned stakeholders.

The Republic of Yemen has taken a number of steps forward to implement DevInfo within the government as a tool to assist in evidence-based decision making. The 2008 National Plan (DPPR) report was prepared using inputs generated from DevInfo Yemen. As a result, the Cabinet of the Republic of Yemen issued a decision to implement DevInfo database technology in all government sectors and sub-sectors, to strengthen their capacity to monitor development plans.

Following the successful launch of DevInfo Yemen 2.0, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation plans to launch an online version of the same in the near future, providing global access to the country’s human development data. The Ministry will also soon launch Yemen CensusInfo, a DevInfo adaptation containing data from the latest census round for the Republic of Yemen.
